5 Week - Intro Hand Building Course

In this 5-week Intro to Hand Building Course, we focus on developing foundational skills and techniques needed to create functional and artistic clay forms. Students will explore various hand-building methods, including pinch pots, coiling and slab building.

This course is designed for all skill levels, providing a welcoming space to either discover a new creative outlet or refine the skills you’ve already acquired. Whether you're a beginner or looking to build on your existing knowledge, this course offers the perfect opportunity to grow and enhance your hand-building techniques.

Over the duration of the 4-week course, you'll be guided by Em the owner of Posy, where you will learn a variety of techniques to give you the skills to create original and imaginative pieces with full access to the Posy Pottery Studio including a range of clays, underglazes and clear & coloured glazes. 

Week 1: Types of Clay & Clay Preparation – Pinch Pot Technique
Week 2: Studio Tools & Clay Stages – Slab Building & Coil
Week 3: Fundamentals of Underglazing & Glazing 
Week 4 & 5: Self guided projects

Experience level: Beginner - Intermediate

+ Can I come alone?
All workshops are fun, social and lots of attendees come alone so don’t be scared if you don’t have a friend to bring along with you ! We all sit together on a communal table and explore the world of clay together!

+ What can I make?
You will have 5kg of Stoneware White clay to use over the course of 4 weeks - additional bags of 10kg clay can be purchased in the studio for $30. 
All students will have access to a selection of vibrant underglazes & clear & coloured dip glazes to finish off their pieces, then all pieces will be cooked in the kiln and ready to collect 2 weeks after the course has finished.
